- 1Start with the free tier you can actually live with — for chat assistants the difference between plans is almost always usage limits, not capabilities, so test the free version for a week before paying.
- 2Decide whether you need current information. If your work depends on what changed this week, only consider tools with live web search; training-data-only assistants will quietly give you stale answers.
- 3For long documents — contracts, reports, manuscripts — check the context limit before anything else. An assistant that forgets page 40 of a 90-page PDF is useless for that job, however good its prose.
